about 5 years ago – Thu, Mar 07, 2019 at 10:36:17 AM

Hello all you wonderful backers! We wanted to send a quick note to let you know about a very killer event tonight in NYC: our pop-up arcade with @takearecess at 6PM EST! Come hang!

Grand Atrium will be setting the mood with an extended DJ set, bringing funky vibes to this dope space. There will be awesome playable games and we'll be there to talk about game development and all things Wonderville, so come through!

We’re hosting tournaments for many of our top games for the pop-up: PARTICLE MACE, KungFu Kickball and VOLLEYGON! So don't miss out, come see exactly how rowdy we get when we do tournament commentary.

Get yourself a FREE ticket here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/death-by-audio-arcade-tournament-tickets-56219842061?aff=dba

Live outside NYC? Can't make it? Don't worry, we have a livestream setup for tonight and you can watch right here on our Kickstarter page! It all goes down at 6pm EST, be sure to subscribe to be notified when we go live in about four hours. (Four hours, oh man, we gotta move some gear!)

Hope to see you there or commenting on the livestream!

And as always, keep your questions and comments coming, we love hearing from you.  There's been a few updates to our FAQ over the last few days and we're regularly updating our Twitter and Instagram feeds with info about our games and developers, including some working on the Wonderbundle.

And speaking of the Wonderbundle, we're down to single digests for Early Bird pricing. Only 9 left as of this writing.

Game on!

What an incredible 24 hours! We laughed, we cried, we wondered why Sonic looked like that.
about 5 years ago – Tue, Mar 05, 2019 at 12:22:01 PM

Hello Backers! What a whirlwind 24 hours it has been, thank you for joining us on this journey and for your support on Day ONE! We have raised 21% of our goal so far!

There's still a long road ahead, please continue to help us get the word out: please share our campaign on social media, use #WondervilleNYC and stay tuned for updates! We'd also love to hear from you on social media (Twitter) (Instagram), ask us a question, share your favorite arcade memories or just say hi!

From the early stages of planning for this Kickstarter, we knew two things: we wanted a sense of community ingrained in the foundation, and that we had to take all the lessons we've learned over the last ten years of living in, working in and being priced out of DIY and music venues and combine them with our not-for-profit expertise and knowledge of NYC bureaucracy to create a solid business plan that ensures we're setting ourselves up for success. You've put a lot of trust in us and it means a lot that we get to share this with you all. So welcome OGs, glad to have you with us right from the jump.

A note about our Early Birds, if you know someone that is on the fence, they're starting to run low, so now is the time to act. Save a few bucks and score some awesome rewards, right?!

We’ve also updated our FAQ with some questions that came to us yesterday, including questions on how to get more than more than one reward, how we plan to use your pledges and more. Please keep those questions coming and we'll respond ASAP. We want to be as transparent as possible about the challenges of opening a space in NYC. In fact, our co-founder Stephanie is a bit of an expert in navigating NYC's license and permit process and she's more than happy to share her knowledge with anyone interested in learning about fire codes or business licenses.

These 24 hours have also been a busy one for stories in the press. After a whirlwind of interviews, we're so proud to see some of the stories coming out and we wanted to take a moment to share some with you:

Variety: Death By Audio Arcade Founder Kickstarting New Indie Game Brooklyn Bar

Bedford+Bowery: Death By Audio Arcade Seeks Permanent Quarters

Brooklyn Vegan:Death by Audio Arcade opening ‘Wonderville,’ taking over Secret Project Robot space

We thought the Bedford+Bowery article wins hands down for best headline of the day  🤣. They interviewed Mark and Steph about the legal challenges to nightlight in NYC and why Wonderville needed a KS to make sure it had all the right permits and licenses to ensure it was around for years to come. Worth a read!

Lastly, a little behind the scenes for you. To celebrate the first day, Mark and Steph had a side bet over who does the dishes, all contingent on if we hit our daily funding goal. Thanks to all of you and how much we raised yesterday, Mark was elbow deep in subs and scrubbers last night while DBA Cat looked on and Steph took some much-deserved rest in the next room. We're not sure what their next bet should be, if you have an idea, we'd love for you to suggest it!

And as always, please feel free to ask any questions or leave a comment. On behalf of the team, this is Shaminder Dulai and it's my #1 goal to be the voice of the community during this campaign for Wonderville, so please reach out! In the coming month, I'll be updating you all and relaying your questions and concerns to our team.

Until next time!
